On June 5, in Rome, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Adolfo Pérez Esquivel and SGI President Daisaku Ikeda released a joint appeal titled “To the Youth of the World: An Appeal for Resilience and Hope,” calling for a new world built on justice and solidarity.

In the appeal, they stress the critical role of empowered young people in transforming history. Daisaku Ikeda, president of the SGI, calls for intensified efforts to respond to the needs of humanity’s most vulnerable, including those displaced by conflict in Syria and elsewhere or by natural disasters.

He urges renewed focus on the protection of children uprooted by conflict and their educational needs, as well as further support to countries that have taken in large numbers of people fleeing armed conflict and persecution.

Daisaku Ikeda, president of the SGI issued his 2015 peace proposal, “A Shared Pledge for a More Humane Future: To Eliminate Misery from the Earth” in which he stressed a need for the rehumanization of politics and economics based on a solidarity of ordinary citizens, for empowerment that enables people to overcome suffering and for a broadening of the sphere of our friendships and concern for others as a basis for building peace.
